what real-life Pilots (and being famous FS-personalities) wrote about FScene:

Andrew Herd (chief reviewer at Flightsim.com):
Andrew also is the inventor of the "Armchair Aviator Award", which he introduced as follows..... When I got around to thinking about how to do this (and I am still in two minds about whether it is a good idea, but what the hell), it occurred to me that it might be a nice thing to hand out some kind of badge, or whatever, so I turned to the best qualified artist I know - Ruud Faber, of FScene texture fame and all round good person - and we kicked some ideas around until the result you see above emerged. Why an armchair? Good question, it just kind of appealed to me, but the idea behind it is that every flight simmer likes to sit in the most comfortable chair in the house while he or she is dreaming of wings....

About FScene in 2002:
there is no doubt that Ruud, ....., has done something that the combined talent of Microsoft could not, and has made FS2002's Europe landscape look real to my eyes.

About FScene in 2004:
Andrew Herd (chief reviewer at Flightsim.com) awarded FScene in his latest Review
.

Quote from Andrew's Review:
" Last time I reviewed FScene, I couldn't help wondering why Microsoft didn't just go out and hire Ruud to do the FS2004 textures for them.
Now I have the luxury of going back and taking a second look at them, I find I still think that way, so I guess these textures from the flying Dutchman deserve their Armchair Aviator Award.
Unlike so many addons, Ruud's textures have made a permanent home on my hard disk."

Francois 'Navman' Dumas (SimFlight.com):
Francois is Managing Editor of The simFlight Network. When on his summer-base in France he flies with the Jodel on Altiport Méribel .

On FScene: Ruud Faber, the masterful creator of the FScene2004 replacement textures for Flight Simulator, makes the FS landscape really come to life.... His rendition of the European Alps look true-to-life and his USA fall landscape, with the vibrating colors of the Indian Summer, really adds tremendous value to VFR flying!

Note: In November 2005 a new review was published on AVSIM, this time by Gene Davis.

Ian Scott (AVSIM.com):
Ian has flown over large parts of Australia and New Zealand as a professional pilot, has spent time in Europe, and during the past 25 years has flown over over just about every part of the US.

Some time ago I wrote a review for AVSIM of the replacement textures produced by FScene. The creator, an artistic Dutchman named Ruud Faber, is a long-standing and well respected member of the Flight Sim community. Now Ruud has begun releasing an even more ambitious series of textures for FS2004. And they just keep getting better and better. Most of us believe that FS2004 is a great improvement over the previous release; though I also thought FS2002 (unlike FS2000 which I hated) was wonderful. The improvements in these two versions of Microsoft's great Flight Simulator were enormous.
But if you are looking to take your FS2004 experience to an even higher level of realism and breath-taking scenery, you need to buy these latest textures from Ruud Faber.
Your entire landscape will be transformed. The default textures are very good – better than anything we've ever had from Microsoft. But the new FS Scene textures are simply spectacular. With no impact on FPS, you will see a world that is more colorful, more three dimensional and more realistic than ever before. The stock landscape suddenly looks almost "photo-realistic" and is crisp and clear. Urban areas are simply spectacular. For the flight sim enthusiast who really does want it as real as it gets, this add-on is a must. The USA and Europe are already covered. Now Australia and New Zealand, South America and Africa are on their way. There is something for everyone. You can buy one season at a time if you can't afford to buy them all at once. Sure, it is a bit expensive to replace all of the stock textures with these. Is it worth it? If "real as it gets" is your standard, then the answer is yes. John R. Dale (Flynorth.com):
John has been flying in Canada for 32 years and currently flies a Cessna 210 and organizes tours to the Yukon and Alaska in the summer. John Dale has been a member of COPA for thirty years, since he began to fly. Author of "Snowshoes & Stethoscopes" (Aviation & Medicine in the Arctic), he has accumulated 2700 hours on 65 types of aeroplanes and added Flight Simming to his aviation interests some years ago. He is an Aviation Medical Examiner in Nelson BC, where he belongs to the Nelson Pilot's Association. He also runs Flynorth.com, which offers aerial tours to Alaska, as well as a database of BC and northern flying tips.

About FScene: Seen on my 21" Dell Monitor (picked up on ebay) it is quite breathtaking. This program is a difficult one to write an analytical review of because it simply improves a whole area of scenery and just needs installing and then you just go fly around Europe VFR. Major improvement on textures. For all VFR pilots in the Flightsim world try at least one of these and see the difference for yourself. They do not affect framerates and make the VFR flights far more enjoyable.

Al Pelletier (Computer Pilot Magazine):
Al was born in Matane, Quebec, Canada, in 1948. He served 25 years as Aircrew in the Royal Canadian Air Force, in a non-pilot role. His job centered on RADAR, Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) and radio communications. He has flown over 6,000 hours in everything from the Canadair Argus, the Tracker, Sea-King Helicopter, DC-3's and P-3's. One of the highlights, of his flying career, was being on the winning crew of the Fincastle Competition in Adelaide, Australia, in 1981. This competition involves Anti Submarine Airplanes and crews from England, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. He who finds the sub the fastest, wins! He started in Flight Simulation at the very beginning, in the early 80's and operated one of the first ever Flight Sim related web sites, back in 1990. Already for many years Al writes his exciting "Round Robin" adventures. A real Flight Sim traditon!

About FScene: (quote from Round Robin Adventures) "The scenario and tasking for today's exercise: We are flying for German based Edelweiss Air and we have been chartered to take contest winners to a ski trip to Innsbruck. We are departing Hamburg and making a stop in Frankfurt on the way to Innsbruck. A note here, that I also used the great upgrade of Europe Winter Textures from FScene....."
